Welcome

Holmfirth Attested Auction Market Limited was established in 1951 and is based in the summer wine village of Holmfirth. The company was created by a group of local farmers who each purchased a £100 share, some of which are still owned by their descendants today, to buy a disused mill. The intention of the purchase was so they could buy and sell dairy cattle which were TT tested, as the other market in Holmfirth, with a history dating back to the 1800's, didn't offer the TT accreditation which was wanted by local farmers at that time.

Holmfirth Attested auction market operates from a large site on the edge of the Peak District National Park and is easily accessible from the surrounding areas of Yorkshire, Cheshire, Derbyshire, and Lancashire selling around 20,000 head of stock annually. A new sales ring, penning area, cafe and office were built in the early 1980's to modernise the market followed by a further extension a few years later to cope with the increase in stock numbers being sold through the market. The cafe is open on all sale days and is run by the market serving fresh home cooked food.

All types of Cattle and Sheep are sold every Tuesday with a show and sale for the store cattle in April and the Christmas shows in December which are well supported by local companies farmers and butchers. On the 2nd Sunday in October we have a special store lamb and breeding sheep sale, known as the Meltham Sheep Fair.

We hope you find this website helpful and look forward to your custom in the future.
